About  the  Trainer
Jen Digate is a certified pet dog trainer who believes animal training should be accessible,
positive and clear. She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, an
organization committed to humane dog training through on-going education.
Jen spent  five years at the
Wisconsin Humane Society
matching people with the dog of their dreams,
evaluating dogs for safety and intaking dogs
who needed to find a new home. She has
handled thousands of dogs and cats in the
shelter, made behavioral programs for
challenging dogs and taught group training
classes since 2001. Jen lives with five incredible
mixed breeds but welcomes all dogs into her classes.
Jen first started teaching humans and animals together in 1990 when she ran a small
stable of 15 horses, teaching all levels of horseback riding for the Black Hawk Council of
Girl Scouts. She ran the barn from 1990-1996 and developed her skills of
communication, choreography, safety and control.  Jen also spent time in Florida
working for
The Exotic Bird Hospital, a veterinary clinic for parrots, where she learned
how to read the body language of and handle everything from finches to Macaws. She
lives with several parrots of her own and is experimenting with free flight training using a
new product called "the aviator leash."  Jen's work with horses, parrots, cats, and dogs
contributes to her overall understanding of animals and is a particular strength she brings
to the table when working with your pet.
